The Power of the Table
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer.” – Acts 2:42
There is something unexplainably powerful about a shared meal. It has a way of softening hearts, opening conversations, and building relationships in ways that few other things can. That’s why families eat together. It’s why church events usually include food. And it’s why sitting across a table from someone matters so much more than we sometimes realize.
The early church understood this. Right there in Acts 2, we see that they didn’t just worship together or learn together. They ate together. Regularly. It was part of their rhythm. Why? Because eating together fosters fellowship. It creates space for trust to grow and lives to be shared.
If you’ve ever been in a small group that eats together, you’ve felt this. The conversations that happen over a meal are often deeper than anything that gets said during a formal discussion. People relax. They let their guard down. They laugh, they share, and they connect.
Jesus modeled this, too. Think about how many moments in the Gospels happen around a meal. He dined with tax collectors and sinners. He shared Passover with His disciples. He cooked fish for His friends on the shore after the resurrection. Jesus didn’t rush past the table. He lingered there.
And maybe that’s the challenge for us today. Slow down. Sit at the table. Invite someone to join you. Don’t just eat to get through it. Eat to connect. Eat to open a door for fellowship.
You never know how much healing, how much encouragement, or how much gospel impact can flow from one shared meal. The table might just become one of the most powerful tools for ministry you have.
So, who’s your next meal with? Make it matter.
