Designed for Dependency

"I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing." – John 15:5

If you’ve been feeling drained, like you’re barely keeping up with the weight of everything life is asking of you, you’re not alone. Somewhere along the way, many of us start to believe that God saved us and then left us to figure everything else out on our own. Like it’s now our job to carry the weight of purpose, pressure, and performance.

But that’s not how this works. You were designed for dependency. Jesus never invited you to produce results by your own strength. He invited you to abide.

A branch doesn’t strain to bear fruit. It doesn’t stress to manufacture growth. It simply stays connected to the vine. That connection is everything. And for you, that connection is Jesus.

Abiding doesn’t mean doing less, and it doesn’t mean living passively. It means letting your energy and direction come from Him, not from your own exhaustion or ambition. You don’t have to pretend to be strong. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to stay close.

When Jesus said, “Apart from me you can do nothing,” He wasn’t shaming you. He was freeing you. Freeing you from the pressure to produce in your own power. Freeing you from the lie that your value is tied to your performance. Freeing you to rest, not because the mission is small, but because the strength is not your own.

If you’re tired, come back to the Vine. If you’re uncertain, stay connected. If you feel stuck, don’t disconnect. You were never meant to carry this on your own. You were meant to live from His strength, not just your strategy.

Your purpose was never about being impressive. It was always about being dependent. Stay close. That’s where the power is.
