The Power in Just Showing Up

“They said to him, ‘We have only five loaves here and two fish.’” – Matthew 14:17

There’s a moment in the Gospels where Jesus feeds thousands of people with just five loaves of bread and two fish. You may have heard the story before. It’s one of the most famous miracles in the Bible, and for good reason. But the part that often gets overlooked is how it all started.

It didn’t begin with Jesus snapping his fingers or the disciples having a plan. It began with a boy. A kid in the crowd who offered his small lunch. In a sea of hungry people, it probably felt like nothing. But he brought what he had, and he gave it.

Maybe you’ve been there too. Feeling like what you have isn’t enough. Like your time, your energy, your resources, your faith. None of it seems like it could really matter. Maybe you’ve felt too small to be used in a big way. But the story of this boy reminds us of something powerful. God doesn’t need a lot. He’s just looking for someone who’s willing to bring what they have and trust Him with it.

The miracle didn’t happen because the boy was impressive. It happened because he was obedient. That’s the part we miss sometimes. We think God is waiting for us to show up with something big. But He’s not. He’s just waiting for us to show up with faith.

Obedience is where it starts. You may not feel qualified, ready, or capable. But if you’ll bring what you’ve got to the hands of Jesus, He can do more with your obedience than you could ever do with your ability.

So today, bring it. Whatever it is. Even if it feels small. Even if it feels like it won’t make a dent. Offer it up to God with open hands and a willing heart. Because when you give it to Him, it’s never just five loaves and two fish. It’s the beginning of something only He can multiply.
