From Chains to Calling

"Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you." - Luke 8:39

It’s one of the most overlooked stories in the Gospels. Jesus gets into a boat, travels through a brutal storm, steps foot on foreign soil, casts out a legion of demons from a man living among tombs, then gets back in the boat and leaves. All of that for one man. Not a crowd. Not a city-wide revival. Just one life that everyone else had written off.

The people in that region didn’t want Jesus around. They were uncomfortable with His power and the way it disrupted their normal. But the man who had been set free from spiritual torment, isolation, and chaos? He wanted to stay close to Jesus. He begged to go with Him. It made sense. But Jesus told him to go back home instead and share what had happened.

The man didn’t get a crash course in theology. He didn’t spend a few years shadowing the disciples. Jesus sent him on mission with nothing but a story of grace and a heart that had been changed. That was enough.

Too many people believe they need to clean up more, learn more, or prepare more before they can be used by God. But the truth is, when Jesus changes your life, He also gives you a purpose. Your past may be messy. Your story may be complicated. But you are not disqualified. You are actually more equipped than you realize.

God is not looking for perfection. He’s looking for willingness. He used a man who had lived in chains to reach an entire region. What could He do through you? You were not just set free to feel better. You were set free to make a difference.

The calling starts now.
