Beautiful Feet Begin at His Feet

"If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet." – John 13:14

Mission doesn’t start with a stage. It starts on the floor, with a towel in hand and a heart laid low. Before you can be sent to the world, you have to first be still at the feet of Jesus.

In John 13, Jesus does something that catches everyone off guard. He gets up from the meal, grabs a towel, and begins washing His disciples’ feet. The Lord of glory takes on the posture of a servant. It wasn’t flashy. It wasn’t loud. It was low. And it’s how He prepared them for the mission.

Jesus was making it clear that real greatness in the Kingdom starts with humility. Not with influence, not with popularity, but with a heart that’s willing to kneel before it tries to lead. Before Jesus ever sent them out to carry the gospel, He showed them what love looks like when it takes off its robe and stoops to serve.

Sometimes we want the mission without the moment. We want the impact without the intimacy. But Jesus flips that. He says, “Come to Me first. Let Me wash over you with grace. Let Me renew your heart. Let Me change how you see people. Only then will you be ready to go.”

Your feet won’t carry good news until they’ve been near His. If you skip the intimacy, you’ll miss the power. You’ll chase a version of ministry that’s more about performance than presence. But when you begin at His feet, He’ll send you out in strength.

Before you run, sit. Before you lead, listen. Before you speak, stay. Because a mission that doesn't begin with Jesus usually ends up about you. But a mission that begins at His feet will carry His presence wherever you go.
