When Your Way Gets Questioned

"But the Pharisees and scribes were complaining, 'This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.'" – Luke 15:2

Jesus had a habit of doing things that didn’t make sense to the religious crowd. He healed on the Sabbath. He touched lepers. He ate with tax collectors. He welcomed children. He told stories instead of giving lectures. Time after time, His methods were questioned.

And they still are.

If you’ve ever tried to follow Jesus boldly, chances are someone has questioned the way you do it. Maybe you’ve been criticized for sharing your faith too much, or not enough. Maybe people don’t get why you spend so much time serving, or why you give your money to the church or missions. Maybe someone has questioned why your small group meets at a coffee shop or why you’re mentoring someone younger in the faith.

People question what they don’t understand. And often, obedience won’t make sense to those watching from the outside.

Jesus never once apologized for His approach. He didn’t waste time explaining Himself to people who weren’t genuinely open. He just kept doing what the Father told Him to do. That’s our model.

There’s no one-size-fits-all method for living out your faith. The gospel is unchanging, but the ways we share it, live it, and serve through it can look very different. What matters most is not how you do it, but why you do it and who you're doing it for.

So if your methods raise eyebrows, let them. If your obedience causes questions, good. Stay faithful. Listen to the Holy Spirit. Move as God leads. Because at the end of the day, you don’t answer to the crowd. You answer to Christ. And if He’s leading, that’s all the validation you need. Keep living boldly. Keep living differently. Keep surprising the world.
