Desire Isn’t Enough
"But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded." - 2 Chronicles 15:7
There is something inspiring about watching someone push through when everything tells them to quit. You can see it in athletes who keep training through injuries. You see it in marriages that have weathered decades of storms. And you see it in believers who keep walking by faith even when the answers seem far away. That kind of grit doesn’t come from desire alone. It comes from determination.
Desire is a great place to start. It gives you the vision, the motivation, and the fuel. But life has a way of testing whether that desire is real. If you want to read through the Bible, be ready for tired mornings and long chapters. If you want to be debt-free, expect to say no to some things you want right now. If you want to walk with Jesus in a way that changes your world, you can be sure the enemy will throw obstacles in your path.
Think about Bartimaeus, the blind man who cried out to Jesus. The crowd tried to shut him up. They told him to be quiet, to sit back down, to give up. But he refused. He kept calling out until Jesus stopped and answered him. That was determination. He didn’t care how loud he had to be or how long he had to wait. He just knew he wasn’t walking away without a chance to meet Jesus.
What about you? What has God put in your heart that has been crowded out by distraction, fatigue, or fear? What’s the desire that needs to be reignited with determination? You’re not alone in the effort. God sees your work. He hears your prayers. He rewards those who don’t give up.
Don’t settle for good intentions. Don’t stop at desire. Dig in. Push forward. Keep going. Whether it’s a dream, a calling, or a simple act of obedience, keep showing up. Because the difference between a wish and a reality is often just a little bit more determination.
