The God Who Dwells with Us
"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth." - John 1:14
There is something powerful about someone choosing to stay close. Anyone can care from a distance. Anyone can send help from far away. But real love moves in. Real love steps into your world. That is what makes the incarnation so incredible. God did not shout His love from heaven or rescue you from across creation. He came close. He entered the world He created. He wrapped Himself in flesh and chose to dwell among His people.
The word “dwelt” in this verse means to pitch a tent. It paints the picture of God setting up His home right where you live. He did not stay in a temple or a distant place. He walked the same roads, felt the same pain, faced the same temptations, and lived in the middle of the same broken world. The God of the universe moved into the neighborhood. He did not come as a visitor. He came as Emmanuel, God with us.
His nearness is not just a detail of the Christmas story. It is the foundation of your faith. You do not pray to a God who is far away. You do not worship a God who keeps His distance. You belong to a God who stepped into your world so that He could make a way for you to step into His. Only a God who comes close can truly deliver you.
When life feels overwhelming, His nearness brings peace. When darkness tries to isolate you, His presence brings light. When you feel forgotten, His closeness reminds you that you are seen. You never walk through anything alone because the God who dwells with you also dwells in you through His Spirit.
Do not let the busyness of life or the weight of your struggles make you forget this simple truth. God did not love you from afar. He chose to be near. He chose to stay. He chose to dwell with you so that you could know Him, trust Him, and follow Him with confidence. The God who came close has not moved away. He is with you right now.
