The Mind You Feed
"For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God, for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God." - Romans 8:6-8
There are only two kinds of minds. One leads to life and peace, the other leads to death. It is not complicated, but it is serious. Scripture says the carnal mind, the flesh-driven mind, is at war with God. It cannot be submitted to His ways, and it certainly cannot please Him. That is the sobering reality for anyone trying to walk the Christian life in their own strength or by worldly standards. The flesh will always lead you away from the Spirit.
But here’s the good news. If you are in Christ, you have the Spirit. You have a new mind, a new nature, and a new desire to live for Him. And as Romans makes clear, to be spiritually minded is life and peace. There is no confusion in that. The Spirit brings clarity. It brings freedom. It brings the kind of peace the world cannot offer.
That is why you cannot hide your faith once you are truly saved. The real thing will always show. Jesus said in Matthew 10 that His disciples would be handed over, flogged, and brought before leaders, not because they were being loud, but simply because they were His. Their lives gave them away. The Spirit inside of them made them different, and the world noticed.
That is still true today. If the Spirit is truly in you, your life will not blend in. It will stand out. And sometimes that will cost you something. You might lose opportunities. You might face pressure. You might even suffer. But you will never walk alone. Because when the Spirit lives in you, it also strengthens you.
Which mind are you feeding? Because the one you feed is the one that will grow. And the one that grows will determine whether you are walking in life and peace or chasing death without even knowing it.
