God Rescues
"God—his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is pure. He is a shield to all who take refuge in him." - Psalm 18:30
Sometimes God rescues in ways we don’t immediately recognize. The story of Israel in 605 BC is a perfect example. Nebuchadnezzar’s attack on Jerusalem was brutal and left the people defeated, scattered, and seemingly hopeless.
But that wasn’t the end of the story. It was the beginning of a rescue. It was the moment God started a turnaround for a nation that had been drifting from His word. And if you’re in a dark place right now, you need to hear this. Just because it feels like defeat does not mean it is the end.
God often allows us to feel the weight of our rebellion so that we learn to cling tighter to His truth. But even in the middle of judgment, His mercy is never far away. That’s what we see with Israel. They were broken, yes, but they began to return to the Word. They began to listen again. And that’s when things started to shift. God began to restore them, not because they deserved it, but because that’s what God does. He rescues.
The Psalmist says His word is pure. That it shields those who take refuge in Him. When everything else is falling apart, His word remains a firm foundation. That’s why the rescue often begins not with some grand escape but with a renewed commitment to the Word of God. He speaks, He guides, and He strengthens us when we return to Him.
Psalm 107:19 says, “Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.” That’s the pattern. Cry out. Return. Be rescued. You may not see it in a flash, but when you walk in the Word, rescue is on the way.
Right now, if you feel stuck, defeated, or surrounded, do not give up. The same God who rescued Israel has not changed. He still hears. He still speaks. And He still saves.
