The Light That Never Fades
"Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'" - John 8:12
Jesus made this declaration at a moment that would have stunned the crowd. It was not a random statement. It happened during the Feast of Tabernacles, when massive lamps lit up the temple courtyard to celebrate God’s past guidance in the wilderness. Those flames filled the night with a golden glow. But eventually, the lights went out.
That is what makes His words so powerful. Jesus was not comparing Himself to a candle. He was making a claim that pushed past the temporary comfort of tradition. Those temple lights burned out. His light never will.
We all lean on something for light. For some, it is religion. For others, it is money, popularity, or success. But none of that lasts. All of it flickers. Every human source of light eventually dims or disappears.
That is why Jesus steps in and says what He says. His light never goes out. His presence is not seasonal. His truth does not shift. His love does not fade. And if you follow Him, you will not walk in darkness anymore. You will walk in the light of life. Not because of what you have done, but because of who He is.
Are you tired of stumbling through shadows? Tired of chasing lights that promise to guide you, only to leave you lost again? Then stop running after temporary sources. Follow the One whose light never fades.
Jesus does not just expose the darkness. He replaces it. And when you are with Him, there is no need to fear what is ahead. The road may be hard, but it will not be dark. His light goes with you. Always.
