When God’s Plan Interrupts Yours
"And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream." - Matthew 1:19-20
Most people love the idea of God’s plan until it interrupts their own. We like direction, but we prefer when it matches our expectations. Mary and Joseph understood that tension well. They had plans for their future. They had ideas of what life would look like. Then God stepped in and redirected everything. What felt like an interruption was actually an invitation. What looked like a disruption was the door to God’s purpose.
Joseph had every reason to be confused. Nothing about the situation made sense. Nothing fit the picture he imagined. Yet while he wrestled with what to do next, God spoke. In the middle of his uncertainty, Joseph learned something every believer must understand. God’s plan will not always match your expectations, but it will always be better.
You will have moments where God interrupts your path. A closed door. A delayed opportunity. A relationship that changes. A season you did not ask for. In the moment, it may feel like everything is falling apart. But often, those interruptions are the very things God uses to position you for something greater. The plan you fear losing may not be the plan God is building.
Mary and Joseph chose surrender. They trusted God’s direction even when they did not have every answer. They stepped into a story bigger than their own. Had they held on to their expectations, they would have missed the purpose God prepared for them.
The same is true for you. God is not trying to ruin your plans. He is trying to reveal His. When He disrupts your timeline or changes your direction, it is not punishment. It is preparation. The interruption you fear may be the invitation God is using to lead you into His purpose.
Do not fight what God is trying to reshape. Do not cling so tightly to your own plan that you miss His. When His direction interrupts your expectations, choose trust. Choose surrender. Choose faith. His plan is always better.
