Hiding From God Does Not Make You Hidden

“Where are you?” – Genesis 3:9
 
There is something instinctive in all of us that wants to hide when we mess up. After failure, shame, or sin, the first reaction is rarely to run toward God. We pull back. We get quiet. We avoid prayer. We convince ourselves we need time to clean things up before we show our face again. We think distance will protect us, but distance only deepens the ache. Hiding feels safer than being seen when we are exposed.
 
That instinct is as old as humanity itself. In Genesis 3, Adam and Eve eat the fruit and immediately hide. Not because God stopped loving them, but because shame entered the picture. They hid among the trees, hoping God would pass by and not notice. But God did not move on. He came looking. And the question He asked was not because He lacked information. It was an invitation. “Where are you?” Not, “what have you done?” Not, “why did you fail?” Just, “where are you?”
 
This is what we forget when shame takes over. Hiding from God does not make you hidden. Silence does not make Him distant. Avoidance does not make Him unaware. God sees through the trees. He sees through excuses. He sees through the version of yourself you are trying to protect. And He still comes looking, not to shame you further, but to restore what was broken.
 
We hide because we think being honest will cost us the relationship. The gospel says the opposite. Being honest is the doorway back into it. God already knows where you are. He is waiting for you to stop pretending and step out of the shadows. When you do, you will not find rejection. You will find grace.
 
If you have been hiding lately, emotionally, spiritually, relationally, hear this clearly. God is not standing at a distance with crossed arms. He is moving toward you with mercy. The question still stands today: Where are you? Not so He can condemn you, but so He can meet you right where you are and lead you back into the light.
