Found Is Better Than Hidden
“Then the Lord God called to the man and said to him, Where are you?” – Genesis 3:9
Hiding often feels safer...until it isn’t. At first, it feels like relief. No questions. No exposure. No need to explain yourself. You stay quiet, keep your distance, and tell yourself this is temporary. But hiding always asks for more. More silence. More isolation. More pretending. What started as protection slowly becomes a prison you did not mean to build.
The problem with hiding is not that God cannot find you. It is that hiding keeps you from being known. Adam and Eve were not lost in the garden. God was not confused. The question was not about location. It was about relationship. God called out because hiding had broken connection, not because He lacked information. Being hidden did not make them safer. It made them afraid.
Being found by God is not exposure in the way we fear. It is not humiliation. It is relief. Found means no more pretending. Found means the truth is finally out in the open, where grace can reach it. God does not find people to shame them. He finds them to restore them. What we call vulnerability, God calls healing.
Many people stay hidden because they confuse being found with being condemned. They assume honesty will cost them everything. Scripture shows the opposite. Freedom begins the moment hiding ends. The weight lifts when the truth is spoken. Fear loses its grip when grace steps in. God does not meet us with anger when we come out of the shadows. He meets us with mercy.
Hidden may feel safe, but I can tell you, being found is better. Found means you are seen and still loved. Found means you are known and not rejected. God is not asking where you are because He wants to punish you. He is calling because He wants you back in relationship. Step out. The garden was never safer than it was the moment God’s voice broke the silence.
