Let It Challenge You
“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” - Hebrews 4:12
It is easy to say we love the Bible when it encourages us. When the verses speak peace over our anxiety or remind us of God’s promises, we welcome them with open arms. But the moment the Word starts challenging us, we get quiet. Defensive. Selective. Suddenly, the same Bible that brought us comfort starts pressing on things we would rather not change.
But here is the truth. If God's Word is going to change us, then it has to be able to challenge us. You cannot have one without the other. Growth comes through pruning. Refinement comes through fire. And transformation comes when the Word confronts the places in us that are still holding out.
God's Word is not just there to comfort your wounds; it is there to confront your sin. It is not just there to promise heaven; it is there to call you to obedience on earth. That is what makes it powerful. It speaks to the brokenness and to the rebellion. It builds up and tears down. It cuts, but it also heals.
Too many people are trying to live a changed life without ever being challenged by the truth. We highlight the verses that make us feel better but ignore the ones that call us to live better. But real transformation only happens when we let all of Scripture speak to us, not just the easy parts.
If you are reading the Bible and never feeling convicted, then you are either not reading it deeply or you are not being honest with yourself. God's Word will stretch you. It will correct you. And that is not a bad thing. That is how growth works.
Let God’s Word challenge you today. Let it press into the parts of you that are not aligned with Him. Not to shame you, but to shape you. That is how change begins.
