More Than Good Intentions
"Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it" - Luke 11:28
Most people do not set out to ignore Jesus. It is not usually a matter of rebellion. It is more often a matter of delay. We hear the word. We nod our heads. We agree with the truth. But somewhere between hearing it and doing it, something breaks down. Life gets busy. Priorities shift. The urgency fades. And before we know it, obedience becomes a someday instead of a today.
Jesus made it clear in Luke 11. It is not enough to hear His word. The blessing comes to those who keep it, who walk it out, and who apply it. Obedience is where the power of His word gets unlocked in your life. It is where the foundation gets laid. Not just in knowledge, but in action.
In Luke 6, Jesus described the person who digs deep and builds on the rock. That kind of obedience is not built on hype. It is built on consistency. He did not say the man built in a hurry. He said he dug. That means he stuck with it when it got hard. He kept digging when progress was slow. He stayed faithful when no one else was watching.
Many of us fall short not because we do not believe, but because we settle for good intentions. We plan to obey. We plan to change. We plan to trust. But intention is not the same as commitment. And Jesus is not calling us to plans. He is calling us to obedience.
Ask yourself today, where am I stopping short? What have I heard from God that I have not yet put into practice? The gap between hearing and doing is where blessing is either delayed or discovered.
You do not have to get it perfect. You just have to get moving. What matters is not how much you know. What matters is whether or not you trust Him enough to take the next step.
