Dig Deeper Before the Storm

"He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. When the flood came, the river crashed against that house and couldn’t shake it, because it was well built" - Luke 6:48

Jesus did not just ask a hard question in Luke 6. He followed it with a picture that hits home. Two people built houses. Both had the same materials. Both faced the same storm. One stood strong. The other collapsed in ruin. The difference was not the storm. The difference was the foundation.

It is easy to call Him Lord when life is calm. It is easy to agree with His words when nothing is being tested. But Jesus said the ones who actually listen and act on His words are like people who dig deep. They take time to build on something solid. They do the slow, steady work that nobody sees because they know storms are coming. Not if, but when.

That is where we often get caught. We hear the truth, but we skip the obedience. We get inspired, but we stay the same. And then, when pressure hits, we wonder why we feel like we are falling apart. Jesus gave the answer plainly. If your life is not rooted in His words and shaped by them, you are building without a foundation. And no matter how nice the house looks on the outside, it will not hold up in the flood.

What stops us from doing what He says? Sometimes it is comfort. Sometimes it is fear of change. Sometimes we just keep putting it off, thinking we will get around to it later. But later often comes with rain. And when it does, it is too late to start digging.

If you want to stand firm when everything around you shakes, start today. Take what Jesus said and act on it. Not when it is easy. Not when it is popular. Right now. That is how you build something that lasts. That is how you prepare for what is ahead.

Dig deep. Not because the skies are blue, but because they will not stay that way forever.
