When Your Life Makes No Sense
"But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light" - 1 Peter 2:9
Following Jesus is not supposed to blend in. It’s meant to stand out. The more broken and self-focused the world becomes, the more our lives should cause people to ask questions. Not because we are loud, angry, or strange for the sake of being strange, but because we live in ways that just do not make sense without Jesus.
Think about what we’re called to do. Forgive people who hurt us. Turn the other cheek. Rejoice in suffering. Stay sexually pure in a world that treats boundaries like burdens. Give away a portion of our income with joy. Choose humility when pride seems safer. Bless those who insult us. Prioritize gathering with the church when everyone else is sleeping in or chasing something else. None of that makes sense to the world.
And that’s the point. The life Jesus modeled and called us to live is full of choices that don’t follow the culture. It’s not about being religious for the sake of it. It’s about reflecting the heart of Christ in everything we do. That means taking up our cross daily. That means dying to what we want so we can live in the freedom of what He wants. And when people see that, it opens the door for conversations that actually matter.
You don’t need to have all the right answers. You just need a life that makes people curious. Why do you love like that? Why don’t you get even? Why do you serve that way, give that way, forgive that way? If your life looks too much like everyone else’s, maybe it’s time to ask if you’ve gotten too comfortable.
Jesus never promised easy. He promised transformation. And when you walk closely with Him, you’ll find yourself choosing the narrow road more often. Not to earn anything, but because you’ve already received everything. Live in a way that makes people wonder. And when they ask, be ready to tell them who you’re really following.
