More Than Enough

“Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. They all ate and were satisfied. They picked up twelve baskets full of leftover pieces.” – Matthew 14:19-20

It’s one of the most familiar miracles in all of Scripture, but sometimes we’re so used to it that we forget just how staggering it really is. Thousands of people sitting on a hillside, hungry and tired after following Jesus, and all that’s available is a little boy’s lunch. Five loaves and two fish. That’s it.

It’s not enough for a crowd that size. It’s barely enough for a family. But that’s exactly what Jesus used to feed over five thousand people. And when it was all said and done, there were twelve baskets left over. Not only was everyone fed, they were full, and there was still more to spare.

It’s easy to glance over that detail, but those leftover baskets matter. They’re a reminder that God doesn’t just meet the need. He surpasses it. And He often does it with whatever we’re willing to hand over, no matter how small or ordinary it may seem. The disciples were trying to send people away. They thought the solution was out there somewhere, in the next town or the next opportunity. But Jesus looked at what was already in their hands and showed them what happens when you stop calculating and start trusting.

We do the same thing today. We marginalize the power of God because we assume He needs more to work with. We think our time is too limited, our skills too average, our resources too small. But that has never been a problem for the God of Scripture. He split seas with staffs, brought water from rocks, used shepherds to take down giants, and conquered death with a cross. The question has never been about what God can do. The question is whether we will trust Him with what we have.

You may feel like what you’ve got isn’t enough. Maybe it’s not enough strength for the season you’re in. Maybe it’s not enough clarity for the decision in front of you. Maybe it’s not enough faith to take the next step. But if you put what little you have in His hands, He will do more with it than you can imagine. He’s not limited by your lack. He’s only waiting for your surrender.
