The Narrow Door
“Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because I tell you, many will try to enter and won’t be able.” - Luke 13:24
There are some things you just cannot afford to get wrong. Jesus does not dodge the hard questions. When someone asks Him if only a few will be saved, He does not give a number or a timeline. Instead, He gives a warning. He says to make every effort to enter through the narrow door. In other words, take this seriously. Your eternity is not something to be casual about.
This is not Jesus being harsh. This is Jesus being honest. He is saying that not everyone who assumes they are in will be in. Some will say, “We ate and drank in your presence,” and He will respond, “I do not know you.” That line should wake us up. Being near spiritual things is not the same as knowing Jesus. Being around the church, singing the songs, hearing the sermons, even doing good things, is not what saves you. It is about relationship. It is about knowing Him and being known by Him.
The door is narrow, not because God is trying to make it difficult, but because truth is exclusive. There is only one name under heaven by which we are saved. That name is Jesus. And that means there is only one door. Jesus said in another place, “I am the door.” He is not hiding it. He is inviting you to walk through it. But it requires surrender. It requires repentance. It requires letting go of your pride and self-sufficiency.
Jesus also says that many will come from the east and west, the north and south, and will sit at the banquet in the kingdom of God. That is good news. It means the door is open to anyone who will truly enter. No matter your background or story, there is room at the table for you. But you cannot sneak in. You cannot fake your way in. You come through the door, or you do not come in at all.
The question is not how many will be saved. The question is, have you made every effort to enter through the narrow door? Do not wait until the door is shut. Walk through it now. Jesus is still inviting.
