When the Word Comes Back

“When the king heard the words of the book of the law, he tore his clothes.” - 2 Kings 22:11

Imagine going to church your whole life, following whatever traditions were handed down to you, and then one day discovering the Bible for the first time. That is what happened in 2 Kings 22. After decades of spiritual darkness and rebellion, the Word of God was found again. When King Josiah heard it read aloud, he did not shrug it off. He tore his clothes. He was convicted, broken, and determined to change.

Why? Because the Word of God revealed truth that had been forgotten. It exposed sin that had been normalized. It realigned the people with God’s will, God’s ways, and God's heart. That is what Scripture still does today, but only if we open it.

The hard truth is that many believers are walking around without much of God’s Word in their hearts. It is not for lack of access. We have Bible apps, websites, printed copies, podcasts, devotionals, and YouTube sermons. But the numbers are still low. Only a small percentage of Christians read the Bible regularly. And that gap is not just a knowledge issue; it is a transformation issue.

The Bible is not a checklist or chore. It is a lifeline. When you open it, God reveals Himself. You see His power, His plans, His character, and His love. You learn His voice. And the more you know His voice, the more clearly you can follow it and share it. That is why today’s challenge is simple but serious. You cannot tell people God’s ways if you do not know God’s Word.

When Josiah heard the Word, it changed him. He led reforms across the entire nation. But it all started with a scroll being opened. What could happen in your life if you opened yours?

Do not wait for a crisis to bring you back to the Bible. Start now. Make it a rhythm, not a reaction. Let the Word of God shape your thoughts, inform your choices, and fill your conversations. When the Word comes back into your life, things will never stay the same.
