What Are You Hiding From?
"Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?" - Matthew 6:25
Worry sneaks up on all of us. It may come in quiet moments or in the middle of a storm, but it always asks the same question. What if? What if things fall apart? What if the money runs out? What if they walk away? And if we are not careful, we start hiding. Not just from people, but from God.
Back in the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve heard God walking toward them and they hid. Not because He had done anything wrong, but because they had. Sin entered the picture, and along with it came fear, shame, and worry. That right there was the very first time a human heart felt what you and I wrestle with now.
Worry is not always a sin, but it always traces back to one. That does not mean you are in sin every time you are anxious. But it does mean that worry would not even exist if sin had not come into the world. It is the cracked foundation underneath the fear you feel.
Think about what people worry about most today. Money. Health. Relationships. Their future. Some of those might sound silly to you. Some might hit a little too close to home. But the truth is, we all deal with worry in one way or another. The good news is, the Bible speaks to every one of those areas. Not in a fake way, but in a real, steady, trustworthy way.
God does not tell you to quit worrying because your problems are small. He tells you to quit worrying because He is big. That is the whole point of Matthew 6. Life is more than the stuff you stress over. God sees you. He knows what you need. He is walking in your direction. No need to hide. No need to worry...not when He is near.
