When Obedience is Uncomfortable

"Everyone who is saved is sent." - John 20:21

There is an uncomfortable truth we have to acknowledge as believers: being sent by God is rarely comfortable. In fact, if you look closely at the Bible, you’ll see a pattern. Every time God sends someone, there is discomfort. Being obedient to His call usually means stepping into the unknown, facing fear, or giving up something you thought you could not live without.

Think about Abraham. He was called to leave his home, his family, and everything familiar to go to a land God would show him. He did not even know where he was going. Think about Moses. He was sent back to the very place he fled from, to face the most powerful man in the world and deliver a message that would not be well received. Think about Esther. She had to risk her life by approaching the king to save her people. Each time God sent someone, it cost them something. It still does.

Obedience does not mean ease. Most of the time, it will be the hardest thing you do. It will stretch you, challenge your comfort zones, and expose your need for total dependence on God. That is not a flaw in the plan. That is part of how He shapes you. Your discomfort is not a sign that you are on the wrong path. It might be the clearest confirmation that you are exactly where God wants you to be.

The sooner you accept that obedience is rarely comfortable, the more freely you can walk in it. You were not called to a life of safety. You were called to a life of surrender. And Jesus never said it would be easy, only that it would be worth it.
