Trust Over Control

"Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me." – John 14:1

When life feels uncertain, the first thing we usually reach for is control. We want explanations. We want clarity. We want to know how things will turn out, what the next step should be, and why God hasn’t acted yet. The disciples were no different. In John 14, Jesus had just told them He was going away, and their hearts were spinning. They wanted to understand what was happening. But Jesus didn’t give them answers. He gave them Himself.

Instead of explaining the plan in detail, Jesus simply said, “Believe in Me.” He didn’t offer certainty about the future. He invited them into trust. That’s the tension we all live in. You don’t always get the why. You rarely get the how. But you always get Him.

Faith is not about having all the information. It’s not about a clear path or perfect understanding. If it were, you wouldn’t need faith at all. Faith is about holding onto God when you don’t see the whole picture. It’s about trusting the character of Jesus when the outcomes are unclear.

There’s a reason Jesus pointed their hearts back to relationship. When you know who He is, you don’t need to know what’s next. When your belief is rooted in who He is, not what He’s doing, you can breathe easy, even when things feel unsettled.

So maybe the breakthrough hasn’t come. Maybe the prayer hasn’t been answered. Maybe the future is foggy. But your job is not to figure it all out. Your job is to trust. Don’t trade peace for control. Don’t let anxiety steal what faith was meant to anchor. The question isn’t whether you have all the answers. The question is whether you know the One who does. And if you do, that’s enough.
