Not Everything Sweet is Safe

"Be alert, your adversary the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour" - 1 Peter 5:8

Some of the biggest regrets in life start with something that looked good at first. That is how temptation works. It rarely shows up wearing a warning label. It shows up looking like something sweet. Something that feels harmless. Something we think we deserve. But just like a fish goes after the shiny lure without seeing the hook, we often chase after what looks good and end up caught in something we never expected.

Jesus asked, “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do the things I say?” One reason is simple but powerful. Sometimes, we just give in. We know what’s right. We know what God has said. But the pull of temptation is strong, and we take the bait. That does not mean we are evil. It means we are human. And it means we have an enemy who knows how to dress sin up in a way that makes it feel like a reward.

The devil is not creative. He is crafty. He will use whatever smells like strawberries to get your attention. He will present shortcuts, counterfeit joys, and quick hits of pleasure that leave you empty when they are over. He is not after your happiness. He is after your collapse. He wants to knock the foundation out from under you by convincing you that one small compromise will not matter.

But it always matters. Because disobedience does not just happen. It builds. One decision at a time. One excuse at a time. And before long, you find yourself far from the life you were trying to build. It is not because God walked away. It is because temptation tricked you into trading obedience for something that cannot last.

This is not about being perfect. It is about being watchful. Being honest. Recognizing that not everything that feels good is good. Temptation is not sin, but giving in without a fight can start a chain reaction that weakens your walk.

You do not fight temptation by trying harder. You fight it by staying close to the One who has already overcome it. And when you slip, run back fast. The same grace that saves you can steady you.
