Say It or Show It
"But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves" - James 1:22
Most people don’t have a problem saying the right thing. We know how to talk about faith. We know the right phrases to use. We know how to sing the songs, post the verses, and say “God is good” when things go right. But when Jesus said, “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I say?” He was calling out the gap between what we say and what we actually live.
It is a gap we all deal with. From the time we were kids, someone probably told us, “Talk is cheap.” Or maybe you’ve said that to your own kids. Why? Because we know deep down that words without action are empty. They might sound good, but they don’t build anything. And they definitely do not build a life that lasts.
Saying Jesus is Lord is a good start, but it is not the finish line. Obedience is what proves whether or not we mean it. You can shout “Lord, Lord” all day long, but if nothing in your life reflects His leadership, you are just making noise. Jesus is not interested in lip service. He is after real surrender.
It is easy to nod along in church, but what about when no one is watching? What about when obeying costs you something? What about when following Him means choosing the narrow road, the harder path, or the slower process? That is where faith becomes real. Not in what we say, but in how we respond.
Today is not about perfect performance. It is about honest reflection. Where is the gap between your words and your walk? Where have you called Him Lord but kept doing your own thing? You cannot build a strong life on empty promises, even if those promises sound spiritual.
Saying it and doing it are two different things. Jesus knows the difference. The world sees the difference. And deep down, so do you. Let your actions catch up with your words. That is where obedience begins and where lasting peace is found.
