Time for a Heart Check

"Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!" - 2 Corinthians 13:5

We spend a lot of time checking everything but our hearts. We check our bank account. We check our texts. We check the weather, the scoreboard, our emails, and our schedules. But how often do we stop and check our faith?

Paul tells us to do exactly that. Examine yourself. Test yourself. Ask the hard questions and be honest about what you find. Not to live in fear or doubt, but to make sure you are not just going through the motions. He’s not asking for perfection, but for proof that your life is built on something real.

You see, it’s easy to settle into routines. Go to church, say a few prayers, sing the songs, nod during the sermon. But the test isn’t whether you know the right words or wear the right label. The test is whether Jesus Christ is truly in you. Not just around you. Not just someone you occasionally reference. But in you, guiding, convicting, shaping, and sustaining you.

That kind of faith doesn’t stay hidden. It shows up in your decisions. It’s felt in your conversations. It drives you when no one is watching. And it humbles you when you start to drift.

Is there evidence of Jesus in you? Is your faith active or on autopilot? Is there conviction when you sin? Is there love for His Word? Is there fruit in your life that points to Him?

This isn’t about guilt or shame. It’s about clarity. Because the most dangerous thing you can do is assume you’re walking with Jesus when you’re not. Don’t be afraid to check. Don’t be scared of what you might find. Jesus never turns away the honest heart that comes back to Him.

The world may test your patience. People may test your limits. But the test that matters most is the one only you and God can answer. Is Christ in you? And is there evidence to prove it?
