Prepare to Hear His Voice

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me." – John 10:27

It’s hard to hear someone’s voice in a crowded room. Especially when music is playing, people are talking, and distractions are everywhere. But the voice of someone you love cuts through the noise when you’ve learned to recognize it. That’s how it works with Jesus. The more time you spend with Him, the easier it becomes to hear Him clearly. Even in the chaos.

But here’s the tension. Most of us never stop long enough to actually listen. We fill our schedules, our feeds, and our minds with nonstop noise, then wonder why God feels distant. We expect Him to interrupt our pace when all along He’s been inviting us to slow down. The issue isn’t that He isn’t speaking. The issue is that we rarely make space to listen.

Jesus said His sheep know His voice. That’s not about spiritual superpowers, it’s about familiarity. You know someone’s voice because you’ve spent time with them. You’ve paused, listened, and learned to distinguish it from all the others. But you can’t shortcut intimacy. You don’t get that kind of clarity in passing. You have to be still.

Maybe it’s been a while since you’ve heard anything from God. Maybe your prayer life feels dry, or your quiet time has turned into a checklist. That doesn’t mean He’s far from you. It might just mean you’ve gotten too busy to notice. What if He’s already speaking and you’re missing it because you haven’t created room to hear?

The Shepherd hasn’t stopped calling. But He won’t compete with everything else you’ve let crowd in. Clear some space today. Put down your phone. Turn off the noise. Open your Bible. Get alone with God. He still speaks, and He wants you to hear Him.
