Jesus Is Who He Says He Is

“Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.’” – John 8:58

In John chapter 8, Jesus was in the middle of a heated conversation with the religious leaders. They were accusing Him of all kinds of things, questioning His authority, and dismissing His words. But what Jesus said next stopped everyone cold. He claimed a name that carried weight beyond anything they expected.

“Before Abraham was, I am.”

That may sound odd at first glance, but to the people standing there, it was explosive. Jesus wasn’t just talking about His age. He wasn’t just saying He existed before Abraham. He was using the exact same name God gave to Moses in Exodus 3. When Moses asked God what to call Him, God responded, “I AM WHO I AM.” That name was sacred. Untouchable. And now Jesus was claiming it as His own.

Jesus wasn’t implying anything. He was declaring something. Boldly. Clearly. He was saying, “I am God.”

That moment shattered every attempt to box Jesus in as just a moral teacher or a prophet. You either accept Him as the eternal God or you reject Him altogether. There is no middle.
And that truth still confronts us today. If Jesus is I AM, then He is not someone we follow halfway. He is not a helpful addition to our lives, or just a source of comfort when things go wrong. He is Lord. Eternal. Unchanging. Divine.

That means He is worthy of your full trust, full surrender, and full worship. The same God who met Moses at the burning bush is the one who walked the streets of Galilee. He is the same today. He has not changed.

You don’t have to wait for another sign. He has already revealed Himself. Jesus is I AM. The question is, will you recognize Him for who He truly is and respond with your whole life?
