Home Is a Person, Not a Place

"Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms." – John 14:1–2

When most people think about Heaven, they picture a far-off place. Streets of gold. Gates of pearl. Maybe even some reunion with loved ones. But when Jesus talked about “home,” He wasn’t just giving directions to a future location. He was pointing to Himself. The place our hearts long for is found in a person, not a postal code.

There’s something built into us that aches for more. We feel it when we’re alone in a crowd or restless after achieving what we thought would finally make us content. That ache is not just nostalgia or dissatisfaction. It’s a holy longing. A reminder that we weren’t made to do life apart from the One who made us.

In John 14, Jesus speaks to that longing. The disciples are confused and scared. They’re worried about where He’s going and what it means for them. But Jesus doesn’t hand them a road map. He says, “I am the way.” In other words, He doesn’t just show the path to life. He is life. He doesn’t just point to a destination. He is the destination.

You might be waiting for life to settle down before you feel like you’ve “made it home.” But the truth is, Jesus invites you to find home right now. Not in perfect circumstances or polished faith, but in real relationship with Him. That’s where peace is. That’s where belonging is. That’s where the ache quiets.

Maybe you’ve felt like you’ve been searching for something that’s always just out of reach. A place where you finally feel safe, seen, and satisfied. That place is not somewhere you’ll arrive when everything clicks into place. It’s someone who has already come near. His name is Jesus, and in Him, you’re already home.
