Real Growth Is God-Dependent
"...and not holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God." - Colossians 2:19
It’s easy to assume that spiritual growth is something you have to manufacture through constant effort. More Bible reading. More serving. More discipline. And while those things are good, they are not the source of true growth. Growth does not begin with what you do. It begins with who you are connected to.
Paul reminds us that real growth comes from holding fast to Christ. He is the Head. He is the source. And when you’re connected to Him, growth becomes natural. Not effortless, but natural. Just like a branch does not have to strain to produce fruit, it simply stays connected to the vine and receives what it needs. The same is true for you.
You might feel like you’re stuck spiritually. Like you’re trying but not seeing progress. But maybe the answer is not to push harder. Maybe it’s to remain closer. When your focus shifts from producing fruit to pursuing Jesus, the fruit will come. He supplies the nourishment. He holds everything together. Your job is to stay connected.
That means carving out time to be with Him. It means listening when He speaks and obeying when He leads. It means depending on His Spirit instead of your own strength. As you do, growth will happen. Quietly. Consistently. Powerfully.
If your spiritual life feels dry, don’t try to fix it by doing more. Start by returning to the source. Jesus has everything you need for real transformation. Stay connected and let Him grow you from the inside out.
