Your Friendships Are Not Accidental
"And as Jesus reclined at the table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples." - Matthew 9:10
When Matthew chose to follow Jesus, he didn’t isolate himself from his old world. He invited Jesus into it. His house became the setting, and his relationships became the mission field. People he had once shared a table with were now sitting with the Savior. That wasn’t random. It was intentional.
God often uses our existing relationships to create gospel opportunities. The people you already know may be the people He wants to reach through you. That friend who opens up during hard times. The coworker who watches how you live. The relative who wonders what makes you different. These connections aren’t coincidence.
It can be easy to overlook the spiritual significance of our relationships. We assume someone else will be the one to reach them. Or we convince ourselves we are not equipped. But if you know Jesus, you already have what they need. You do not need a platform. You just need a seat at the table and a willingness to share what He has done in your life.
This does not mean you force conversations or pressure people. It means you live with awareness. You pray with purpose. You show kindness, listen well, and speak truth when the moment comes. And you trust that God is already at work in ways you cannot always see.
Jesus was not afraid to be seen with sinners. He pursued them. He sat with them. He loved them. And through people like Matthew, He still does. Your friendships matter. They are not accidental. They are eternal opportunities. So use them well.
