Significance Starts with Dependence

"I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing." – John 15:5

There is a deep hunger in all of us to feel significant. To know we matter. To believe that our lives are making a difference. But that hunger can easily twist into a dangerous pressure. We try to prove our worth. We chase approval. We run ourselves into the ground trying to be enough. And without even realizing it, we stop depending on God.

Jesus doesn’t invite us to prove ourselves. He invites us to abide. He says that real fruit, lasting impact, and true purpose only come when we stay connected to Him. Not just once a week, not just during a quiet time, but continually. The vine doesn't just feed the branch occasionally. The branch only lives if it stays connected.

So if you’ve been trying to carry your calling without staying rooted in Christ, no wonder you feel tired. No wonder peace feels distant and purpose feels fuzzy. Jesus says, apart from Him, we can do nothing. That’s not a warning to shame you, it’s an invitation to come back. To stop striving. To rest in His strength. To trust Him for the results.

You weren’t made to be self-sufficient. You were made to walk closely with your Savior. If you want to live a life of significance, it will not come from talent or hustle or performance. It will come from dependence. From surrender. From daily connection with the One who gives life and produces fruit through you.

God’s plan for your life is bigger than you think, but it will never be realized apart from Him. So plug back in. Slow down. Get quiet. Abide. Because your significance doesn’t start with what you do. It starts with who you depend on.
