Don’t Separate Faith from the Rest of Life
"Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end." - John 13:1
There can be a subtle danger in how we approach faith. Many people treat their relationship with God like it belongs in a separate compartment, tucked neatly beside work, family, hobbies, and everything else. The problem is, God never designed our lives to be split up that way.
Think of a TV dinner. Each item has its own section, and none of it touches. That’s how a lot of people try to live spiritually. Faith gets one compartment, maybe Sunday morning or a five-minute devotional, and the rest of life stays untouched. But life with Jesus is more like a pot pie. Everything is mixed together, every bite shaped by the same flavor, baked in the same crust.
John 13:1 sets the tone for one of the most powerful chapters in Scripture. Jesus, knowing the cross is right in front of Him, gathers with His disciples for a final meal. But He doesn’t just teach. He serves. His love was not confined to a sermon or moment of worship. It filled everything He did, right down to the most menial task.
That’s the life He calls you to. Not one where you try to squeeze in a few religious moments, but one where your faith is baked into every conversation, every decision, every action. Whether you’re at the gym, in the carpool line, in a meeting, or scrolling on your phone, the question is the same: Does this part of my life reflect who I follow?
God doesn’t want your spiritual life to be something you visit occasionally. He wants it to define you entirely. The goal isn’t balance. It’s surrender. Let Him shape every part of who you are. That’s where real faith lives.
