Set Your Focus Where It Matters
"If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth." - Colossians 3:1-2
When your life changes, your focus should too. That’s exactly what Paul was getting at when he wrote to the Colossians. He wasn’t giving them a motivational speech or trying to help them organize their priorities. He was reminding them that a new identity in Christ demands a new direction for your mind.
You’ve probably noticed how easy it is to focus on what’s right in front of you. Bills, stress, conflict, success, disappointment. Life pulls your attention in a hundred directions, and if you’re not careful, you’ll be driven by the temporary. But when you were raised with Christ, your foundation shifted. You weren’t just saved from something; you were raised into a new life, a new perspective, and a new mission.
That’s why Paul says to “seek the things that are above.” He’s not telling you to ignore real life or pretend your struggles don’t exist. He’s calling you to lift your eyes. Because when your gaze is fixed on Christ, everything else comes into proper focus. You stop chasing approval. You stop being controlled by fear. You stop measuring success by shallow standards.
Your thoughts shape your habits. Your focus shapes your future. When your mind is set on eternal things, your life begins to reflect eternal purpose. That doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when you intentionally redirect your mind every day.
What are you focused on today? What are your thoughts most occupied with? If it’s not aligned with who you are in Christ, then it’s time to reset your focus. Not to escape reality, but to anchor yourself in a greater one. This world will always offer distractions. But your calling is to set your mind higher. Because your life is now hidden with Christ, and that changes everything.
