When Fear Drives You to Pretend
"The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe." - Proverbs 29:25
Fear does not always push people to run. Sometimes it pushes them to pretend. Under pressure, honesty can feel risky. Telling the full truth may seem costly. So details get softened. Stories get adjusted. Integrity slowly bends, not because someone wants to deceive, but because fear wants to protect. Pretending often feels like survival.
This is how fear works beneath the surface. It convinces you that partial honesty is safer than full obedience. A half-truth feels easier than trust. Hiding seems smarter than risking loss. Fear rarely asks for outright lies at first. It asks for small compromises that appear harmless. Over time, pretending becomes a habit rather than a moment.
Scripture is clear that fear creates traps. Once fear shapes decisions, freedom shrinks. Pretending requires constant maintenance. Stories have to be remembered. Appearances have to be protected. Integrity becomes fragile because it is built on anxiety instead of trust. Faith, on the other hand, invites honesty because it rests in God’s care rather than human approval.
