Mercy in Problems You Did Not Choose
“Then Judah said to his daughter-in-law Tamar, Remain a widow in your father’s house until my son Shelah grows up. For he thought, He might die too like his brothers. So Tamar went to live in her father’s house.” – Genesis 38:11
Some of the hardest situations in life are the ones you never asked for. You did not make the decision. You did not cause the failure. You did not choose the fallout. Yet you are the one living with the consequences. That kind of suffering feels especially heavy because it comes with a sense of powerlessness. You are stuck dealing with the ripple effects of someone else’s fear, selfishness, or disobedience.
That is where Tamar’s story becomes painfully relatable. Judah failed her. He made a promise he had no intention of keeping, then quietly pushed her out of sight to protect himself. Tamar did not lose her future because of her own choices at first. She lost it because someone else refused to do what was right.
