God Is the One Who Takes the First Step

“For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost.” – Luke 19:10
 
Most of us assume that getting back to God starts with us. We think repentance begins when we finally feel bad enough, clean enough, or motivated enough to turn around. Until then, we stay distant. We wait. We assume God is waiting too, arms crossed, watching to see if we will make the first move. That belief keeps a lot of people stuck in guilt and delay.
 
The truth is far more comforting and far more confronting. God does not wait for us to come looking for Him. He comes looking for us. Long before we feel ready, aware, or even interested, God is already moving in our direction. His pursuit does not begin at our best moment but at our most lost one. We do not initiate restoration. We respond to it.
 
This changes how we see grace. Grace is not a reward for effort or improvement. It is an invitation extended before change ever happens. God does not step toward us because we promised to do better. He steps toward us because love moves first. Even our desire to turn back often comes after God has already been working in our hearts, softening resistance, stirring conviction, and opening our eyes.
 
Many people delay coming back to God because they believe they need to fix something first. A habit. A pattern. A season of distance. But waiting to be ready misses the point. Readiness is not the requirement. Willingness is. God is not asking for perfection. He is asking for honesty. The first step was already taken by Him. The next one is simply ours to follow.
 
If you feel far from God right now, do not assume that distance means disinterest on His part. God has already moved toward you. He has already sought you out. He is not waiting for you to prove anything. He is inviting you to respond. You are not behind. You are not late. You are not forgotten. The search began before you ever thought about turning back, and grace is already standing closer than you think.
