Persistence Is Proof of God’s Mercy
“Only goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord as long as I live.” – Psalm 23:6
Most of us like the idea of God being patient, but we are less comfortable with the idea of Him being persistent. Patience feels gentle. Persistence feels personal. It means God does not give up easily. It means He keeps showing up in conversations we avoid, thoughts we push away, and moments we hoped would pass quietly. Persistence tells us God is not interested in a casual relationship.
Avoidance is one of our favorite tools. We delay obedience. We resist conviction. We dodge hard truths. We assume silence will make things fade. But God does not operate on our timelines or avoidance strategies. His mercy does not back away because we hesitate. Psalm 23 does not say goodness and love wait at a distance. It says they pursue. That word implies movement, intention, and refusal to quit.
God’s persistence is not about pressure. It is about love that refuses to let us settle for less. He keeps reaching out not because He is disappointed, but because He knows what is at stake. Every nudge, every reminder, every return of conviction is evidence that mercy is still active. A God who keeps pursuing is a God who still cares deeply about where you end up.
Many people misread persistence as annoyance or judgment. In reality, it is one of the clearest signs of grace. If God wanted to walk away, He could. If He wanted to leave you to yourself, He would. The fact that He keeps drawing near, even when you resist or delay, is proof that you are not forgotten or written off. Mercy stays engaged long after we would have quit on ourselves.
Resistance does not exhaust God. Delay does not surprise Him. Avoidance does not cancel His pursuit. God’s mercy is steady, faithful, and relentless in the best possible way. The same goodness and faithful love that chased David through valleys still follows you today. God keeps pursuing because He is committed to your life, your healing, and your future.
