Trusting God In Challenges
"The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” - Deuteronomy 31:8
You made it to the end of October.
That may sound like a simple observation, but for many of you it is more than that. This month has been a journey — not just through a calendar, but through some of the most honest terrain that fear and faith share. Whether October brought a dramatic breakthrough or simply a quieter, more settled sense of who God is in the hard places — you are still here. Still walking. Still trusting.
That is not a small thing. It is, in fact, exactly what faithfulness looks like from the inside.
Looking back over this month, a thread runs through every devotional, every topic, every metaphor of roads and storms and shepherds and shelters. It is this: fear does not have the final word. Every one of those fears met the same response from Scripture: He is here. He goes before you. He will not leave.
Moses spoke the words of Deuteronomy 31:8 to a people standing at the edge of a land they had never entered, about to face challenges they had no roadmap for, under the leadership of a man who was still learning what it meant to follow in the footsteps of the shepherd who had led them this far. Joshua was afraid. The people were afraid. And God's response was not a detailed plan of everything that lay ahead — it was a promise of presence. I go before you. I will be with you. I will not leave you.
He didn't give them a map. He gave them Himself. And it turned out that was more than enough — not because the road ahead was easy, but because the One who walked it with them was absolutely faithful. That is the same gift He has been offering you all month, in every reflection, in every prayer, in every invitation to take one more step forward in trust. He goes before you into November, into the unmapped seasons ahead, into every challenge that hasn't announced itself yet. You are not stepping into the unknown. You are stepping into territory He already occupies.
So as this month closes and a new one begins, take a moment to receive what this journey has been building in you. Not a perfect absence of fear — but a practiced habit of bringing it to God rather than letting it lead you.
Prayer
Lord, I am not afraid of what is ahead — because I know who is already there. Lead on, Good Shepherd. I am following. Amen.
