Obedience When God Says Go
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” - Joshua 1:9
Hesitation has a way of masquerading as wisdom. We tell ourselves we're waiting for the right moment, gathering more information, or simply being prudent. And sometimes, that's true. But if we're honest, there are seasons when hesitation isn't wisdom at all — it's fear with better vocabulary.
Joshua knew this moment well. He had spent forty years watching the generation before him hesitate at the border of a promised land — and forfeit it entirely. Now he was standing at the same edge, appointed to lead a new generation across the Jordan. God's commission to him wasn't a gentle suggestion. It was a command, repeated with striking urgency: be strong and courageous, be strong and courageous, be strong and very courageous (Joshua 1:6–7, 9). Three times in nine verses. God knew what was waiting at the threshold of that obedience. He also knew what it cost to hesitate there.
What is striking is the order of what God said to Joshua. He didn't say, "Feel courageous, then go." He said, "Go — and I will be with you." The courage wasn't a prerequisite for the movement; the movement was the place where the courage would be found. That is almost always how it works. We imagine that boldness arrives before obedience — that we'll know we're ready when the fear finally lifts and confidence settles in. But Scripture consistently shows us the opposite pattern. The Israelites stepped into the Jordan and then the waters parted. The disciples cast the net on the other side and then the catch came. Movement preceded miracle. Obedience opened the door that hesitation had kept closed. The path through fear is rarely around the threshold — it's straight through it, one step at a time.
If you've been standing at an edge God has clearly called you to cross — a hard conversation you've postponed, a ministry step you've circled but not taken, a relationship you've been too afraid to pursue or release, a calling you've qualified and second-guessed into paralysis — today's word is for you. The command hasn't changed. The promise attached to it hasn't changed either. The Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Not wherever you feel ready to go. Wherever you go. His presence doesn't wait at the finish line of your confidence — it travels with you into the first trembling step of your obedience. The wilderness between where you are and where He's calling you isn't a place you'll cross alone. It never has been.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the promise You gave Joshua — and for the fact that it belongs to me too. You are with me wherever I go. Not just in the places where I feel certain and prepared, but in the first shaky step of obedience, in the middle of the crossing, and on the other side of whatever You're calling me toward. You don't wait for me to be fearless. You meet me in the going. Amen.

The word paralysis jumped out at me. I have stepped out into obedience but my mobile home hasn’t sold as of yet. So now I am second guessing how I thought He was leading me. Prayers greatly appreciated.
