Forgotten by People, Not by God
“Can a woman forget her nursing child and lack compassion for the child of her womb? Even if these forget, yet I will not forget you.” – Isaiah 49:15
One of the deepest wounds a person can carry is the feeling of being forgotten. Not attacked. Not confronted. Just ignored. When people move on without you, stop advocating for you, or quietly push you to the side, it creates a pain that is hard to explain. You start to wonder if your life still matters or if you were only useful for a season and nothing more.
That is where Tamar found herself. After losing her husband and being promised security through Judah’s family, she was told to wait. Time passed. The promise was never kept. Judah moved on with his life while Tamar sat in silence, sidelined and forgotten. She did not cause the situation, yet she was the one left without protection, without provision, and without a future. To Judah, she became an inconvenience. To God, she was never invisible.
What makes Tamar’s story powerful is that God never stepped away, even when people did. Judah forgot his responsibility. God did not forget His purpose. Tamar’s life may have looked stuck and overlooked, but mercy was still working behind the scenes. God was not rushing, and He was not absent. He was positioning her story for redemption that would reach far beyond her lifetime.
This is where many of us struggle. When people forget us, we assume God has too. We confuse human neglect with divine absence. But Scripture is clear. God’s memory is not fragile like ours. People forget out of fear, selfishness, or convenience. God does not forget because forgetting is not part of His nature. Even when others move on, God remains faithful.
If you feel ignored right now, pushed aside, or left behind, take heart. Being forgotten by people does not mean you are forgotten by God. Tamar’s name did not disappear into history. God wrote her story into redemption itself. Your life is not on hold because someone else failed you. God sees you, remembers you, and is still at work. His mercy has not skipped over you. And what feels like silence now may one day become the very proof that God never forgot you at all.
