You Cannot Outrun Mercy
"Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?" - Psalm 139:7
Most people think distance will solve the problem. When guilt gets heavy or conviction gets uncomfortable, the instinct is to move away. Avoid prayer. Avoid church. Avoid anything that reminds you of God. It feels logical. If you can create enough space, maybe the weight will ease. Scripture confronts that idea gently but firmly. Mercy does not lose the trail.
God’s love has never depended on human cooperation. It pursues even when resisted. From the earliest pages of Scripture, God moves toward people who are hiding, running, or actively turning away. Mercy is not fragile. It does not give up because someone is stubborn or exhausted or unsure. God’s pursuit is steady, not reactive.
You may recognize seasons where you tried to outrun Him. Staying busy. Staying distracted. Staying guarded. Maybe rebellion looked loud. Maybe avoidance looked quiet. Either way, mercy kept showing up. A thought you could not shake. A verse that resurfaced. A conversation that landed harder than expected. God does not chase to corner people. He pursues to restore them.
Grace follows paths fear tries to close. It shows up in places people assume God would avoid. Mercy waits patiently, not because it is weak, but because it is committed. God does not grow tired of pursuing His children. He does not measure effort the way people do. Love keeps moving because love is who He is.
The gospel is not about finding the perfect way back. It is about realizing you were never out of reach to begin with. No distance outruns mercy. No resistance exhausts grace. God’s love remains present, persistent, and patient. When you stop running, you do not find anger waiting. You find mercy that has been there the whole time.
