The God Who Moves Toward You

"Now he had to pass through Samaria" – John 4:4

You might not always feel worthy of God’s attention. You might even assume He’s waiting for you to figure things out, get your act together, or clean up the mess before He'll come close. But that is not how God works.

Jesus was on His way from Judea to Galilee when Scripture says He “had to pass through Samaria.” At first glance, it sounds like a travel note, just a line about geography. But most Jews in His day would go out of their way to avoid Samaria altogether. They saw it as unclean and unwelcome territory. So this was not a shortcut. It was a choice.

Jesus went there on purpose. Not for the crowds or for the headlines, but for one woman drawing water in the heat of the day. A woman weighed down by shame and marked by rejection. A woman no one else would seek out. But Jesus did.

He didn’t wait for her to show up in a synagogue. He didn’t require her to ask the right questions or prove her sincerity. He moved toward her first. That same Jesus moves toward you.

Even in the places you think are too broken. Even in the hours you feel most alone. He meets you right where you are, not where you wish you were. Your doubts, your mess, your past. None of it keeps Him away. If anything, it draws Him in. That’s who He is.

You do not have to chase Him down. You do not have to climb your way up. The God of the universe walks toward you with intention and grace. The question is, will you stop and meet Him at the well? Because He’s already there. Waiting, ready to offer you the only thing that will truly satisfy your soul.
