The Hourglass of Revelation
"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us" – John 1:14
If you’ve ever flipped an hourglass, you’ve seen what happens as all the grains of sand funnel into a single point. Everything narrows for a moment before expanding again. That image is a helpful way to think about the story of God’s revelation.
Throughout the Old Testament, God revealed Himself in many ways. Through creation, covenants, prophets, fire, wind, and cloud. But all of it, every glimpse of glory and whisper of holiness, pointed toward something more. Eventually, the entire message of God funneled into one person. Jesus. The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. The invisible became visible. The mystery became a man. The fullness of God stepped into skin and walked among the people He created.
But that wasn’t the end of the story. After the resurrection, that narrow point of revelation began to widen again. Through the Spirit, Christ now expands His presence through His people. That includes you.
If you have placed your faith in Jesus, you are not just a spectator to His story. You are now part of how it spreads. Your life is not random or insignificant. You carry the presence of the same Jesus who walked through Galilee, wept at the tomb, calmed the storm, and rose from the dead.
He still shows Himself to the world today, not through burning bushes or thunderous skies, but through His people. Through kindness. Through truth. Through compassion, courage, grace, and humility. Through ordinary lives lived with extraordinary purpose.
You do not have to be the center of attention to be the light of Christ. You simply have to be willing. The same God who revealed Himself through Jesus now reveals Himself through those who follow Him. The question I have for you today is, do you see your life as part of that divine expansion? Because you are not just watching history, you are living it.
